Rumor: Potential Next Gen Xbox(720) Console Features

xbox logo

Edge released an article today that has the Xbox rumor mill running astray. According to the article, Microsoft’s new Xbox console will require an Internet connection in order to work (meaning that you always have to connected to the internet). Included in all physical copies of games is an activation code, meaning that Microsoft may be attempted to discourage the reselling of their games. preventing used games from working.  Other features include  an new and improved Kinect and the ability to read 50 gig Blu-ray discs. This is all rumor, however. So before you boycott Microsoft, just wait until an official announcement. The news does come from the internet, and you know how that place is.

This seems like a great idea if you are a developer studio making games. Making sure that people are buying your games and stores like Gamestop aren’t making money from used games sales. But I can see a the downside of this; you can’t take a game to a buddy’s house and play it off their Xbox to do some sweet sweet LAN. Honestly, it seems like that something that may not happen due to the DRM making it impossible to play any games on the console unless you have constant internet connection. But I can see Microsoft doing something where they give you a code for a download on the game and making it harder for the used game market. But if this is true, I know a lucky boy who is getting every installment of Borderlands!
