Ready to get your demon slaying on? Well too bad, cause the demons are here and you’ve got nothing but a short sword and a wooden shield keeping you alive. From Software’s hit Action RPG Demons Souls is the first game to hit the PS+ Instant Game Collection for the month of April, with Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny, Malicious, Labyrinth Legends, and Zombie Tycoon 2. As per last month’s preview, no exact date is given for any of these games except for Demons Souls, which is out later today. The one other exception, however, is Zombie Tycoon 2, which isn’t released until April 30th, the last tuesday of the month, so we can be pretty sure when that game is going to hit our collection. For those who don’t know what these games are, here is a quick run down of each title.
Demons Souls is the hit Action RPG from From Software, known for it’s brutal difficulty, Demons Souls is what seperates the men from the women. Demons Souls is also the “spiritual prequel” to hit multi-platform game Dark Souls (which is known to be getting a sequel, Dark Souls 2, some point in the future), we say spiritual prequel because due to Sony owning the license of Demons Souls, no multi-platform game baring the franchise’s name could be produced, but the similarities between the two titles don’t end at the word “Souls”.
Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny is the PSP title in the Soul Calibur series, boasting many familiar faces and game modes to fans of the series. Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny is compatible with the Playstation Vita, much like Tekken 6 from last month’s PS+ Bonuses.
Malicious is an Action Beat Em Up game where you play as a single dude with amazing powers fighting against hoards of enemies both big and small. Defeat enemy after enemy to unlock more powers and progress through the story. The game has solid controls and a beautiful art style that makes it worth picking up the title when it becomes free. While this is the PS3 release, it is of interest to note that there is a Vita version of the game that contains a second playable character and story, however this version is in Japan only, so good luck getting it (trust me, you’ll need it).
Labyrinth Legends is a game that I’ve personally had my eye on for a while. It’s a top down dungeon crawler where you go from room to room, fighting monster, solving puzzles, and collecting treasure. The game also features 3 different multiplayer modes where you can play with up to four friends.
And finally, last but not least, we have Zombie Tycoon 2, releasing April 30th. Boasting an “immersive single player campaign and competitive multiplayer”, only one evil zombie legion can come on top.
Phew, that was a mouth full, but at least it’s a lot to look forward to this month. Now that we’ve got the preview out of the way, a quick look at todays update. Accompanying Demons Souls we see a sale on the entirety of Season 1 of The Walking Dead, a sale on SRPG Rainbow Moon, as well as a sale on Söldner-X. That’s it for this preview, see you all next week.
