Another Nintendo Direct came and went today at 9AM on the East Coast. Personally, I don’t believe we learned about anything that’s groundbreaking, but that doesn’t mean there are no games to look forward too. Before we summarize the info we got, here’s the Nintendo Direct video in case you want to watch it for yourself.
First off, Satoru Iwata stated that 2013 will be the Year of Luigi, meaning that there’ll be plenty of games that you’ll be able to fill your quota of Luigi love with. We got some gameplay information on Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, in regards to upgrades that Luigi’s trusty vaccum, the Poltergust, got, which includes the ability to shine a light to uncover missing objects that are needed to solve puzzles. The game will be released March 24, 2013.
We learned that New Super Mario Bros U will be receiving a large, Luigi focused, DLC pack, which will allow players to use Luigi to play through completely reworked levels. It’ll be called New Super Luigi U (no ‘bros’ since Mario is taking a break). No date has been given for its release.
We also got confirmation about two games that’ll be released this summer for the 3DS. First off is Mario and Luigi: Dream Team. In this latest iteration of the series, Mario will enter Luigi’s dreams and tackle a new bad guy there. However, since it’s Luigi’s dream, Luigi is able to pull of amazing feats, such as attack with a whole army of Luigis. The other 3DS game that’ll have Luigi as a playable character is Mario Golf: World Tour, being developed by Camelot, the team who originally created the games for the Nintendo 64. Both games will be released in Summer 2013.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which is apparently doing spectacular in the Japanese market, will be released in June 9, 2013. For the first time, you’ll be the mayor of your town, putting you in more control of the Animal Crossing world more than ever. You can now even customize the outside of your residence, which includes turning your house into a castle, so you can truly live like a king. The streetpass feature was explained as well. Whenever you receive new Streetpass information, you’ll be able to visit the other player’s house in “Happy Home Showcase”. That’s where you can visit the homes all of the Streetpasses you get.
- Next, we learned a lot about new 3DS eShop titles that you’ll be able to able to download this year. We got Dillon’s Rolling Western: The Last Ranger, the latest in Dillion’s cowboy tower defence adventures, which will be released on March 11, 2013.
- From GameFreaks, the team who brought you Pokemon, comes HarmoKnight, a platformer rhythm game, which will be released on March 28 2013. A demo of Harmoknight will be avaiable for download on March 14, 2013.
- Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move was confirmed for development. No release date was given.
- Finally, we got some freefalling, well tunneling action with Kerploosh, which you can download on March 7, 2013.
Lastly, we learned that the 3DS will see some more Donkey Kong love with Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, which is being completely reworked from the Wii version with full 3D. No release date was given.
